For Summer Sewing Fun 2017, we are excited to announce that Susie Krage will be presenting a full-day hands-on workshop on Saturday, July 8, where we will learn to dye cellulose fabric (any plant-based fiber including cotton, rayon, linen, flax, etc.). In this overview, we will be using fiber-reactive or “cold-water” dyes that are nontoxic and easy to use. You will learn a little bit of chemistry (Susie promises it isn’t difficult) and a lot about dyeing. In the morning we will dye and “batch” the fabric (allow it to have time to react), and in the afternoon we will experiment with “nuking”– instant dyeing using a dedicated microwave. (Susie will provide the microwave). Each participant will take home a stack of dyed fat quarters in their choice of colors.
Early bird tickets are $137 for members and $185 for non-members, you can order online with your credit card now! (note that a $3 online handling fee is included in the final price).
A supply list will be provided to all attendees upon registration, and some homework is required prior to class. A kit fee of $20 will be payable to Susie the day of class. Coffee, iced tea, pastries, and cookies will be proved throughout the day. This is a full-day class that doesn’t allow for trips out to bring in lunch, so we recommend you bring your own brown bag lunch. Space is limited, so register early. Registration deadline is June 12.
