Summer Nimble Thimble Now Online

Hello Maryland ASGers!

Here is your summer issue of the Nimble Thimble. Inside is the annual meeting information, an article on the Spring Sew Fun, and how to sign up for the Fall Sew Fun. Don't forget about the Spirit of ASG Award, and chapter officer nominations are due. As always, the Neighborhood Groups sent in great pictures and write ups. Take a look!

In Focus: Neighborhood Groups

No matter where you live in Maryland, there's probably a Neighborhood Group meeting monthly where you can make new friends, build your skills, and share your love of sewing.

While we use the web site to promote Chapter-wide events and gatherings, the real life-blood of the Maryland Chapter is our Neighborhood Groups.  The groups provide a place for members to meet up at least monthly to share their creations with like-minded sewers (Sew 'n Tell); to share news about local and national sewing-related sales, museum shows, and conferences; to run educational and Sit-n-Sew programs; and to enjoy each others' friendship.  We have 16 Neighborhood Groups across the state, so if you are thinking about joining Maryland ASG or want to get more out of your membership, please take a closer look!

The Duffel Bag Project

....drumroll, please!  In 2016, our Chapter made and delivered over 300 duffel bags for foster care kids in Maryland!  This far outstrips our commitment of 250 bags for the year. and the Social Services Group in Maryland has been able to put them to use.  Thank you to all our members and Neighborhood Groups who have given their time and talents to this rewarding sewing project.

September 1, 2017 - update

We would like to acknowledge Lee Andersen, owner of Lee Andersen Fashion Design & Manufacturing Company in Laurel, Maryland for her contributions to The Duffel Bag Project. She has offered to partner with us by helping the ASG get great prices on fabric and then storing it until we have time to cut it on her industrial-length table with her industrial-strength knife. This saves the ASG money, time, and energy.

Thank you, Lee, for your generous contributions, patience, and kind spirit!

Sincerely, Carolyn Pesterfield – Community Service Chair
